Recreational Soccer

Welcome to the start of the Fall 2020 Rec Soccer program.

We are just two weeks away from our first rec soccer Saturday (Sept 19th). My name is Adam Charnley, Vice President of PASC. Importantly, I am also the COVID Safety Coordinator for the club. I am writing to introduce our plans and expectations for this fall season. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. Email [email protected] or call 484-857-7272.

PASC is committed to delivering soccer in a safe environment and has developed a health and safety plan that follows the guidance of our governing body, the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer (EPYS), and the best practices of US Youth Soccer, Chester County, the CDC and the state of PA. Our return to play and safety plan was developed by PASC’s COVID Safety Committee comprised of club members with expertise in health and safety and the club’s soccer leadership. A full description of our plan is available on the PASC website, and this information will be updated frequently as we adapt our program to the changing health situation and the needs of our soccer community.

A foundational aspect of playing soccer in our current environment is a commitment from all club members to act responsibly and with consideration for others. Stay informed and follow instructions from medical professionals, be honest about your health and report if you are experiencing any symptoms and do your best to adhere to the recommendations of good hygiene and social distancing. Our commitment is that we will use all current information and the best guidance from professionals to design and deliver high quality soccer programming.

An essential tool to enable playing soccer in this environment is that all members (players, family members, coaches, staff) are required to complete the PASC Health Report / Tracking form if they are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or are under quarantine. The information transmitted by this form will be used by PASC administration to determine appropriate follow up and club mitigations actions. Be honest in your evaluation and be responsible to yourself, your family and your community.

CLICK HERE to access the PASC Health Report / Tracking form.

By completing this form, you are assisting the club to maintain a safe environment for our members. Once a submission of possible or confirmed COVID illness is made you will not be able to participate in PASC activities until a physician has cleared you for activity. Importantly, in the event of an exposure to COVID within a team or teams, we are fully prepared to quarantine/stop play of that team(s) for the required period.

As highlighted in the mandatory health report (above) we are also implementing these safety strategies:

  • Prior to attending any training event, every player and coach must check his/her temperature at home and refrain from participation if he or she has a temperature above 100º or has any other symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Per the PA Department of Health, if you have traveled, or plan to travel, to an area where there are high amounts of COVID-19 cases, it is recommended that you stay at home for 14 days upon return to Pennsylvania. If you travel to any of these areas, you will not be eligible to participate in PASC activities for 14 days upon return. The current travel advisory can be found at www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx

PASC soccer Saturdays will be very different from a normal year. The current mitigation strategies that we are implementing can be found on our website. I wish to highlight several important steps we are taking this fall.

  • The focus will be on the soccer and not the social. Thus we ask that you arrive on time and leave promptly after your child’s game/practice.
  • In order to reduce the number of people in the park at any given time we are introducing several rules and timing changes:
    • We are permitting one parent per child at the PASC facility.
    • Games will be spread out over a longer period of time (8:30AM – 2:00PM)
    • Pee Wee program will run on the University of Valley Forge Soccer Field (behind the PASC clubhouse), and not in Charlestown Park.
  • Adults must wear face masks at all times while on PASC premises.
  • Athletes are encouraged but not required to wear face coverings while on the field of play.
  • Face coverings must be worn by athletes when not actively playing. Players must have face masks on hand while attending training and games.
  • During practices, we will require that parents not congregate at the fields. Remaining in their vehicles is preferred.
  • Maintain social distancing from other non-family groups at all times.

Other important rules for the start of fall soccer:

  • Players are required to bring their own ball to training and games. All personal equipment (including soccer balls) must be sanitized between sessions.
  • Players and coaches should thoroughly wash/disinfect their hands prior to and immediately after every training session or game.
  • No sharing of water or snacks, and no post-game snacks.
  • No shaking hands, high fives, fist bump, hugs, etc.
  • Training equipment disinfected between sessions.
  • Only coaches can touch or move equipment.
  • Scrimmage vests/pinnies are considered personal equipment and must be washed after every session (each player will be provided his/her own).

We understand and appreciate the trust you are showing in our organization by playing soccer this season. We take this responsibility seriously and are committed to making responsible decisions for our entire club family and community. We will communicate any changes to our plans. We welcome your input and encourage you to contact us with any and all questions or concerns.

It is exciting to see the start of the soccer season. We are very much looking forward to seeing our players work, develop and showcase their amazing talents and energy.

Thank you,

Adam Charnley
PASC Vice President
